The Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English is a four-year undergraduate program designed to prepare students to become effective and innovative English teachers at the secondary (high school) level. The course focuses on developing students' competencies in the English language, literature, linguistics, and the principles and methods of teaching. It combines a strong foundation in language and communication skills with in-depth studies in English and American literature, applied linguistics, and curriculum development. Throughout the program, students engage in theoretical coursework, language proficiency training, educational psychology, and practice teaching. They learn to design lesson plans, assess student learning, integrate technology in instruction, and foster critical thinking, creativity, and cultural appreciation among their future students. The program also emphasizes research skills, classroom management, and professional ethics. Graduates of BSEd-English are qualified to take the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) and pursue careers as high school English teachers, education program specialists, curriculum developers, and even pursue further studies in education, communication, or language studies.
