Introduction: An exciting opportunity has now emerged for the position of English Language Consultant, who will work in unison with our China Manager and the China Projects Manager. The main focus of this role is to manage and teach English on current projects that we are now running with our university partners in China. The primary role will be to teach and manage EAP (English for Academic Purposes) and ESP (English for Specific Purposes) courses on our Joint Education Programme at Neusoft Institute of Technology in Foshan, Guangdong. The post will require the person be on-campus four days per week, and the taught hours will be approximately 12 hours per week. The contract will be for 1 year initially, however this can be extended after the first year. You will be working closely with our China Project manager in order to successfully allow for the delivery of all of this project. As well as this, you will also work closely with members of the university’s Faculty of Engineering and Technology in order to successfully manage, maintain and deliver this course. Your Skills: You will need to be a well-qualified teacher of English language (fluent in English) with considerable experience of teaching English to students in China. As such, you will have had experience of devising your own teaching resources, assessment materials and providing support with the preparation of course syllabi. Of course, you will need to be a team player and also enjoy building effective relationships with students and staff in our partner institutions. Apart from being a teacher, you will also be an advocate for UWE Bristol and will be central to our recruitment ambitions. A sense of humour, resilience and good organisational skills are essential to this consultancy, as is a commitment to hard work! Qualifications: Required • TESOL or DELTA qualification with at least two years’ teaching experience in China • CELTA and 5 years’ teaching experience in Asia (China) • Fluent in English language • Be flexible in regard to working hours and travel Preferable • Experience in management of English language programmes Responsibilities as English Language Consultant: • Responsible for project co-ordination/teaching of the JEP (English language courses) taught face to face in at Neusoft Institute, liaising with regional staff and teachers to ensure smooth delivery of the courses. • Responsible for the maintenance and co-ordination of the Neusoft JEP (English language courses). You will also be responsible for supporting quality assurance procedures. • To act as link-tutor between UWE, Asia Pacific/Neusoft and UWE in the UK. This will require constant communications in regard to the course and progress of the students in the first two years of their degree. • Overseeing and carrying out testing and assessments of students, as required (including other regions in China as and when needed) • Liaising with designated staff and senior managers at Neusoft and operating through on-site project groups. In particular, you will liaise regularly with line managers and with the Country Manager for China to ensure the success of the project, the resolution of challenges and the celebration of success. • Supporting the development of new projects as and when they occur. • To undertake domestic travel within China to provide supervision and support for International Officers and academic colleagues travelling to visit the China projects as required. • To be able to act as an ambassador for the university representing UWE at a range of events and activities. • Act as an advocate for UWE Bristol thereby supporting recruitment to UWE Business-related programmes (including Accounting and Finance) either in country or in the UK Other General Responsibilities: • Undertake appropriate administrative duties as required, including support for student applications. • Contribute to recruitment and admissions processes including attendance at appropriate events across Asia Pacific and the development of programme literature. • Attend meetings as required, including those conducted online. • Be responsible for own health and safety and that of your colleagues, in accordance with the University’s health and safety policy.
